Project Description

Albany South End Connector

City of Albany, Albany County, New York

Creighton Manning led the survey and mapping, preliminary design, and final design efforts for the design and construction of a 1.5-mile trail link between the existing Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail and the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail in the City of Albany. The South End Connector link consists of both on-road separated bicycle lanes, a side-path, and an off-road trail under an elevated section of I-787. A critical step to the project involved identifying separation options for the bicycle lanes and side-path that fit within the existing curb-to-curb width and provided a safe, comfortable facility. Additional tasks included public involvement, meeting with 10 different stakeholders, coordinating with the local transit provider to integrate the trail with a bus rapid transit station, cost estimates, and permitting with NYSDOT.
