Town of Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York

This $5.8 million County-funded project involved the superstructure replacement of the Galeville Bridge (BIN 3347430) over Wallkill River. Originally constructed in 1940 as a two-span Warren thru truss bridge over 300 ft long, the bridge was supported by concrete gravity abutments and a pier on rock. The project replaced the superstructure with continuous metallized steel girders while maintaining the same horizontal roadway alignment and existing hydraulic conditions. The new structure is supported on modified substructures designed to accommodate seismic loading. A causeway allowed construction access through the Wallkill, while traffic was maintained via an off-site detour.
