Project Description

Wallkill Bridge Rehabilitation

Town of Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York

This project involves the rehabilitation of the Wallkill Bridge carrying Bruyn Turnpike over the Wallkill River. The existing bridge is a three-span, earth filled, concrete arch bridge built in 1915. The width of the travel lane was non-standard and the sidewalk was shared with an insulated watermain, thereby reducing its usable width. The bridge rehabilitation included widening the travel lanes by providing a structural concrete deck with overhangs, pedestrian improvements, drainage, water line relocation, and lighting design. Creighton Manning was responsible for bridge inspection, preliminary and final bridge design, alternatives development, survey and mapping, load rating, SHPO coordination, highway design, utility coordination, cost estimating, and construction support.
